Birmingham plans to sign a thrilling player in January

To say Wayne Rooney’s time at Birmingham City has been a disaster would be an understatement.

The former Derby County manager took over from John Eustace with the Blues on course for a Championship play-off spot, only to suffer a run of one win in nine games since his arrival. Birmingham is now ranked 17th, seven points behind the top six. It appears that January cannot come soon enough for Rooney.

With that in mind, Birmingham are reportedly interested in signing a La Liga gem who is getting closer to making his first-team debut in Spain’s top flight.

Birmingham City transfer news

With Tom Brady’s wealth at his disposal, Rooney has the opportunity to make an impact on Birmingham in the January transfer window. Given how poorly he’s performed without reinforcements thus far, it’s clearly necessary.

As the Manchester United legend’s poor form continues, questions will be raised about his suitability for the job and whether the Blues will regret firing Eustace when they were in such a strong position. Meanwhile, Rooney will be hoping that his current form is just a blip on the radar before he finds his stride. One move, in particular, could help prove that theory.

Birmingham City are interested in signing Sevilla youngster Musa Drammeh, who has just six months left on his current contract and will be available for a cut-price deal in January, according to TEAMtalk. Birmingham have reportedly sent scouts to watch the 22-year-old striker for Sevilla Atletico – Sevilla’s B team – as have Sunderland, who are also interested.

Given his side’s recent struggles, the deal would certainly give Rooney a boost, though it remains to be seen whether he can persuade Drammeh to leave Spain and choose Birmingham over Sunderland in January.

Drammeh is one for the future

Drammeh, who is 22 years old, appears to be facing the most important decision of his career when the January transfer window opens. Working under a legend like Wayne Rooney should appeal to any young striker, but the Sevilla man has plenty of options.Meanwhile, Drammeh’s statistics show that he is more than ready for first-team football. In 13 appearances for Sevilla Atletico this season, the forward has five goals and two assists in an impressive campaign that has reportedly brought him closer than ever to Sevilla’s first team.

Rooney recently discussed potential January arrivals, telling The Birmingham Mail, “We are not going to go crazy in January because we have a huge summer coming up.” But, of course, if we can make changes in January and bring in new players, we will. We’re looking for players who can help us. It’s not just bringing in players for the sake of it. We’ll bring in players we’ve been watching and like if we can, rather than just bringing in players for the sake of it. There’s no rush to get players in if we can’t get those players in.”
