Birmingham City’s surprise offer for star declined because…

Birmingham City’s late attempt for a player was rejected down, as he ‘was not interested’ on returning to the Championship.

Birmingham City’s bid for Galatasaray striker Halil Dervişoğlu was rejected by the player, who did not want to leave Turkey.

According to Kaya Temel, the striker rejected down offers from Birmingham and FC Twente, citing a lack of interest in either club.

Dervişoğlu joined the Turkish team on loan from Brentford in January 2021, which was then extended for another year in the summer.

He returned to Brentford in June 2022, but was then loaned out to Burnley, which did not work out for either party.

He returned to Galatasaray on a permanent basis in the summer, but has struggled to impress, making only 14 appearances and accounting for 16% of available minutes in the Super Lig.

They are eager to move him on, and Birmingham City and his previous club FC Twente both attempted to sign him before the January transfer window closed.

Temel says that the player’received offers’ from both clubs but was ‘not keen on joining’, particularly after Cedric Bakambu departed.

As a result, both parties’ late efforts fell short, and Birmingham were left without the striker signing that they appeared to want.
