Birmingham City To Compete With Rivals For EPL Midfielder

Football Insider reports that Birmingham City, Queens Park Rangers, and Rotherham United are among the Championship clubs interested in signing Luton Town midfielder Allan Campbell.

The 25-year-old has fallen out of favour during his loan stay at Millwall in the first half of the 2023/24 season, and he is attracting a lot of interest in the Championship as he looks for regular first-team minutes after starting only nine games this season with The Lions.

Campbell played a critical role under Rob Edwards, covering numerous midfield positions and demonstrating his ability to attack, box-to-box, and defend effectively. Furthermore, he started 38 games at Kenilworth Road, scoring three goals and providing two assists from midfield as the Hatters finished third in the league and advanced through the playoffs.

Campbell is still obliged to Millwall, therefore a move would require Luton to recall Campbell from his loan term at The Den in order to permit the midfielder’s second move of the season.

The clubs interested are now ranked 20th, 22nd, and 24th in the Championship table, thus the Scotsman’s decision might have a significant impact on the relegation struggle in the second division. Additionally, a return to Scotland is possible, with Aberdeen reportedly interested in the international.

Campbell’s last game for The Lions came in mid-December as a late substitution against Huddersfield Town, implying that the midfielder is out of favour at The Den.

Despite not working out at Millwall, Campbell was an important part of Luton Town’s surprise promotion last season for a reason.

Campbell, with his mobility in the midfield, extensive experience, and promotion credentials at the level, might be a valuable asset to any Championship side struggling in the second part of the season. This signing could have a significant impact on the final bottom three in the second division.
