Birmingham City ‘set up’  transfer approach for son of Middlesbrough

Birmingham City are interested in signing a goalkeeper from Blackburn Rovers, according to the most recent Sky Bet Championship transfer news.

Birmingham City is close to signing Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Aynsley Pears on a permanent deal during the summer.

Birmingham City can confirm that Manager, Tony Mowbray, requires medical treatment which means he will be temporarily stepping away from the on-site management of the Club for a period of approximately six

The 25-year-old, who previously worked with Blues manager Tony Mowbray and assistant Mark Venus at Ewood Park, has appeared 16 times for Blackburn in the Championship this season.

Pears has conceded 26 goals and preserved two clean sheets in those appearances, with Rovers currently in 16th.

Birmingham is looking for a goalkeeper since the current two, John Ruddy and Neil Etheridge, finished their contracts in June and do not intend to renew.

Pears, the son of Middlesbrough legend Stephen Pears, has been identified as a key target, according to The Sun.

Jack Butland, Glasgow Rangers’ goalkeeper, has been mentioned in recent months, although the rumors have died down.

Brighton & Hove Albion’s young player James Beadle, who is currently on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, is also being monitored by the Blues. However, Pears currently has the strongest connection. This season, the Englishman from Durham has made 53 Championship saves.

He has quick reflexes, enjoys punching the ball, and frequently goes off his line. However, the prolonged passage is a weak feature.
