Blues manager Chris Davies is expected to add to his squad by bringing in the Scotland international from QPR, in a move reported to be around £1 million.

Birmingham City are nearing a deal for QPR’s Lyndon Dykes.

The ambitious League One team selected the Scotland international after narrowing down a five-man shortlist. The 28-year-old striker, who scored for the Hoops against Sheffield United over the weekend, is needed to balance out top scorer Alfie May’s output.

Dykes may also serve as a spearhead on his own, making him an appealing signing for manager Chris Davies. Despite their significant investment this summer, Birmingham are lacking in core striking places.

Davies will want to have a backup for May in case the 31-year-old is injured, since he now only has veteran Lucas Jutkiewicz who can fill that role.

Dykes has 37 goals in 165 appearances for QPR in all competitions.

The League One favourites won 2-1 at Leyton Orient on Saturday, and they have seven points from their first three games.

Boss Davies commented, “I think it was a significant win for us. It is never easy to win away from home in any league at any level, regardless of whose side you are on. For us, it was a big win, a difficult one, and we had to show many different aspects today. Our ball skills and attacking play are unquestionable, as are our reactions to adversity, as well as our strength and determination not to concede goals.

“We had a little of everything, and I was quite satisfied. I was aware that we could reach a milestone today. Full thanks to the players and staff for their hard work this preseason; it allowed us to do something that hadn’t happened in nine years, which is too long.”
