Birmingham City are closing in on a deal for Rangers defender Ben Davies.

The big-spending English League One club wants to sign the veteran defender, and Record Sport understands the Blues want to take the 29-year-old on loan with the option to buy at the end of the season.

Birmingham manager Chris Davies is hoping the deal may be completed within the next 24 hours so he can play for Leyton Orient. Davies has known the defender since his time at Preston and Liverpool.

The deal will allow Philippe Clement to add to his own squad before the transfer window closes. Davies earns a lot of money, and moving to the Blues would allow Rangers to bolster their squad once more.

The Light Blues had already been linked with a move for Almeria’s defender Kaiky Fernandes. Rangers reportedly offered roughly £650,000 for a loan deal with the possibility of signing him permanently for around £6 million next summer, but Almeria rejected the offer.
