Birmingham City are planning a deal for another Eredivisie star.

This time, they’re interested in signing NEC Nijmegen winger Sontje Hansen, with talks expected to begin in the coming weeks. According to TransferWatchNL, the League One club has expressed serious interest in the 22-year-old, who impressed during his first season with NEC. The Netherlands U21 international was previously with Ajax but recently chose a new adventure over a new deal at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Sontje Hansen appeared in 38 games in all competitions last season, scoring six goals and providing seven assists. His incredible speed, talents, and ball-handling ability made him a nightmare for defenders last season, and he’d be more than capable of doing the job in England’s third tier. Manchester City were previously great fans of Hansen, but a lack of playing time at Ajax may have hampered his development.

Birmingham have already signed two Eredivisie players this summer, with Swedish winger Emil Hansson moving from Heracles Almelo and Willum Thór Willumsson signing from Go Ahead Eagles. If Sontje Hansen moved to St. Andrews, they’d have enough firepower to reclaim the Championship. The forward’s current contract with NEC runs until 2027, which could complicate matters. More information about this is forthcoming in the following days.
