Birmingham City product’s contract is ‘terminated’ following a disastrous venture

Mitch Hancox, a Birmingham City youth graduate, has had his contract with York City terminated by mutual agreement, according to a club statement.

The left-back, who joined Birmingham at eight in 2001 and left in 2016 to join Macclesfield Town, made 33 appearances for the Blues. The 30-year-old defender has previously played for MK Dons, Solihull Moors, Harrogate Town, Hereford, and Hartlepool United.

Hancox was a popular figure at LNER Community Stadium, where he helped York win promotion from the National League North before becoming a regular in the fifth division. However, he has slid down the pecking order and is poised to leave after a failed loan spell at Hartlepool.

York City confirmed in a statement that midfielder Mitch Hancox’s contract has been amicably cancelled. The 30-year-old midfielder first joined the Minstermen on a one-month loan in October 2021, which was extended until the end of the season in January 2022.

“Hancox secured a permanent contract in the summer of 2022 after appearing 37 times in all competitions during the play-off promotion season.

“After signing permanently, he made 45 more Minstermen appearances in all competitions. York City would like to express its best wishes to Mitch in his future endeavors, as well as its appreciation for his contributions while at the football club.
