Birmingham City player has issued statement to fans over his future at the club

Dion Sanderson has written a letter apologising to fans and responding to concerns over his future.

The central defender has allayed fears of a possible exit with a lengthy statement to fans, pledging his future to Birmingham despite the club’s recent relegation to League One.

It was a catastrophic season in the Championship that saw Sanderson tumble to the English third tier for the first time in nearly three decades, but it has not deterred him. The captain wants to assist the Blues recover at the earliest possible time.

Not only that, but Sanderson wants to atone for his own mistakes, including an off-the-field incident that sparked widespread criticism. The 24-year-old appeared in court on a drink-driving allegation following an incident after Birmingham’s 3-0 victory against Coventry City. It’s time to make things right.

Sanderson wrote on Instagram, “Hello Bluenoses. I haven’t been on social media in quite some time. I felt it was essential for me to stand back and think on the last few months. It’s been difficult to deal with as a player, captain, and individual.

“I’d like to apologize to everyone for the mistakes I’ve made both on and off the pitch. Birmingham City is my home. It’s an honor to represent this football club and to experience the fans’ love and support from the moment I arrive at the stadium until I step off the field.

“I’m excited for the season to begin, and I’m looking forward to returning to work with renewed concentration, hard effort, and resilience. I am confident that we will overcome this setback and restore the club’s momentum.

“I hope to meet you all very soon, and most importantly, thank you. Your assistance has been invaluable. KRO,” Sanderson stated.
