Birmingham City pair ready to remain as soon-to-be free agent receives interest

Birmingham City are preparing for life in League One as they seek immediate promotion back to the Championship.

They were relegated alongside Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town.

The Blues have hired Chris Davies as their new head coach. Here is a look at some of the most recent news and rumors from the club…

Player to stay

According to Polish news outlet Meczyki, Krystian Bielik is expected to stay with Birmingham for the next season. The 26-year-old, who can play in both defence and midfield, is on contract until 2026 and is set to stay in the third division.

The Poland international joined Arsenal as a youth from Legia Warsaw in 2015, and he has appeared twice for the Premier League club’s main squad. He spent time on loan at Walsall and Charlton Athletic before returning to the Emirates Stadium with the Blues.

Derby County signed Bielik in 2019 and he played 49 appearances for the Rams in all competitions.

Birmingham then re-signed him a few years ago, and he has since made 76 appearances.

Goalkeeper wanted

John Ruddy has surfaced as a potential target for Charlton Athletic as they look to strengthen their goalkeeping department. According to London News Online, the Addicks have ‘explored’ a move for the experienced stopper.

The Blues have offered him an extension to his existing contract, which expires at the end of the month. The ex-Norwich City player is set to become a free agent as things stand.

Striker latest

Birmingham are close to reaching an agreement with striker Lukas Jutkiewicz on a new contract, according to BirminghamLive. The attacker’s deal, like Ruddy’s, will expire in a few weeks.

Davies could see the 35-year-old as someone who can provide additional competition and depth to his attacking ranks. He has been with his current side since 2017 and has scored 67 goals in 331 appearances.

The Southampton-born player has formerly played for Swindon Town, Everton, Coventry City, Middlesbrough, and Burnley.

Loan ace targeted

Jay Stansfield has emerged on Hull City’s radar following his loan spell with the Blues last term. He scored 13 goals but has recently returned to Fulham.

According to HullLive, the Tigers are interested in signing the 21-year-old as they want to add some strikers in the coming months. Recent departures include Noah Ohio, Liam Delap, Aaron Connolly, and Billy Sharp.

Other news

Former Birmingham defender Geraldo Bajrami has signed for Burton Albion after leaving Notts County. The Brewers also signed Elliot Watt from Salford City.

Carl Robinson, Wayne Rooney’s number two at St Andrews, has relocated to America to become the new assistant manager of Atlanta United in the Major League Soccer (MLS). The Welshman has already worked for the Vancouver Whitecaps, Newcastle Jets, and Western Sydney Wanderers, so he is not unfamiliar with working overseas.
