A decision has been made on a Sunderland player who Birmingham City were hoping to profit from

Birmingham City will have to wait for any transfer windfall for Jobe Bellingham after it was revealed that he would be staying at Sunderland.

The Blues transferred Bellingham to the Black Cats last summer for about £5 million, and after eight goals last season, he has piqued the interest of many top-tier clubs.

Crystal Palace were rumored to be the most likely to capture Jobe, the younger brother of Real Madrid and England star Jude. The Eagles will have to wait at least a year, as it appears that the 18-year-old intends to stay at the Stadium of Light.

In a tweet, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stated: “Jobe Bellingham’s plan is to stay at Sunderland for at least one more season, despite interest from several Premier League clubs.”

“Crystal Palace have been pushing for weeks but Jobe’s current stance is to stay and trust #SAFC ambitious project.”

Sunderland valued Bellingham at roughly £20 million, and before he left St Andrew’s last summer, they included a 15% sell-on clause. If a club met Sunderland’s value and Bellingham changed his mind, they would receive a windfall of almost £3 million.

Last summer, Bellingham signed a ‘long-term’ contract with the Wearside club, which is intended to last three seasons. If Bellingham continues to produce at the same level as last season, his worth could rise, resulting in a larger payout.

Jobe, like his brother Jude, rose to prominence at a young age and made several appearances for the first squad. He appeared 26 times for the first team in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons. The Stourbridge-born player decided to leave Birmingham last summer, just before Knighthead Capital Management completed their ownership of the football club.
