Birmingham City player Alex Pritchard has urged the club’s supporters to persevere with the team during a difficult period, while speaking to the Blues’ media team.

Under John Eustace’s leadership, the Midlands side began the season strongly and went into the top six.

This followed a highly successful summer at St Andrew’s, with Tom Wagner taking over as the club’s new owner to succeed BSHL.

Unfortunately, the new board made the disastrous decision to replace Eustace with Wayne Rooney in October, which might cost the club dearly.

With the team unable to adapt to Rooney’s approach, the former England star was fired in January, leaving Tony Mowbray to clean up the mess his predecessor had created.

However, during the early stages of his tenure, Mowbray was compelled to step down and delegate authority to his assistant, Mark Venus.

Unfortunately, Venus has failed to lead Blues away from danger, and they are now hovering precariously over the drop zone.

They are only one point above the drop zone, having slumped like a stone since Eustace’s departure, and despite having a game in hand, there is a good probability they will be relegated at the conclusion of the season.

That would be nothing short of a disaster for Wagner during his first season in charge, especially given the quality of players who have joined in recent windows to bolster the squad.

Tahith Chong may have gone for Luton Town, but they made more than enough high-quality recruits to ensure a comfortable finish this season.

Pritchard to Birmingham City supporters: “Stick with us”

Difficult weeks lay ahead for the Midlands club in their quest to remain in the Championship – and Pritchard has sent a message to supporters ahead of tomorrow’s clash against Middlesbrough.

“It is tough to take but we need to stay upbeat,” he said.

“The fans have been great since I’ve been here. You can tell they’ve come in large numbers today, which must be really challenging for them.

“I understand, but remain with us; we need to stick together in there, and we will. Tuesday night is a huge game. We shall go all out for our fans.”

It’s time for Birmingham City’s key players to step up to the plate

Jay Stansfield has been terrific this season, but his contributions between now and the end of the season will be more important than those made earlier in the season.

Alex Pritchard can also be a game changer with his deliveries and ball skills, thus he is another player who can make a difference.

Pritchard is clearly aware of and recognizes the Blues’ current fragile condition, which could help.

Siriki Dembele is another player who can make a difference, but Jordan James may be their most crucial player given how much he has contributed this season.

Venus must make the best use of the club’s many game changers.
