Al-Wehda has reached an agreement with Birmingham City to sign midfielder Juninho Bacuna on a two-year contract.

Bacuna will become Al-Wehda’s first major summer acquisition, succeeding Morocco’s Fayçal Fajr, who has joined league rivals Al-Taawoun.

Juninho Bacuna, 27, made 48 appearances for Birmingham previous season, scoring nine goals and assisting six; unfortunately, he was unable to prevent the team from relegation to League One.

The Curaçao international missed the club’s first four games of the season and appears unlikely to return ahead of the Saudi Arabia move.

Bacuna joined Birmingham from Rangers in January 2022 and has made over 110 appearances for the Blues since then.

He also played for FC Groningen, Rangers in Scotland, and Huddersfield Town in the Premier League, where he appeared 21 times.

Al-Wehda, led by a German manager, aims to strengthen their roster, which presently has only four foreign players registered, most notably Odion Ighalo, Jawad El-Yamiq, and Craig Goodwin.

They are also rumored to be interested in signing Al Ahly’s Percy Tau in order to improve on last season’s 13th-place finish.
