Birmingham City were interested in signing Connor Goldson from Rangers in this transfer window, however he has completed a move.

Connor Goldson, a defender who spent the last six years at Rangers and was linked with Birmingham City throughout the summer season, has joined Aris Limassol in Cyprus. Goldson, 31, has almost 300 appearances for the Gers since joining from Brighton in 2018, although he is expected to go this summer.

It is understood that the Blues were interested in bringing him to St Andrew’s as part of their summer recruitment overhaul ahead of their League One campaign under new manager Chris Davies; they have already made eight additions, with more expected in August before the transfer window closes.

While centre-back Marc Roberts left at the end of the season and loanee Emanuel Aiwu returned to his parent club, Davies has Krystian Bielik, Dion Sanderson, and new signing Christoph Klarer to call on to play at the heart of the back-line, while left-back Lee Buchanan can also slot in if a back three is used.

Davies is looking for another central defender, while the Blues are currently short on right-back options beyond first-choice Ethan Laird, after Cody Drameh’s loan expired. Goldson, who left the UK to sign a three-year contract with Aris, who placed fourth in the Cypriot top flight last season, will not be joining St Andrew’s.

Goldson, a Wolverhampton native who came through the Shrewsbury Town academy, won the Scottish Premier League title, the Scottish Cup, and the Scottish League Cup while in Glasgow. Rangers confirmed the transfer, saying, “Everyone at Rangers wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours.”
