Birmingham City-Linked Callum Styles will talk with Barnsley about his future.

According to reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon page, Birmingham City is interested in signing the player this summer. He spent the second part of the season on loan with Sunderland in the Championship, having joined them in January.

Styles, 24, was just overseas with the Hungary national squad for Euro 2024 in Germany. Despite winning their final game against Scotland, they were unable to progress beyond the group round.

According to the Barnsley Chronicle, new Barnsley manager Darrell Clarke stated that Stylesy has taken a prolonged vacation. He’ll work on his own this week before returning. I need to sit down with him and discuss the plan for moving forward. We need to sit down face-to-face and acquire his and my opinions, then see whether they agree.”

Latest on Birmingham City target

As Clarke mentioned, Styles has had a long sabbatical but will return to Barnsley for pre-season.

He is still under contract at Oakwell until June 2025, thus he has 12 months left on his deal. He has been with the Tykes since he was a kid in 2018.

They risk losing him for free next year if they don’t sell him now or in January.

He appeared 12 times for Sunderland last season, and the club has decided not to sign him permanently.

Styles moved through Bury’s academy ranks and made 47 appearances for their first team before joining Barnsley.

He has subsequently played 151 matches for the Tykes, scoring 13 goals. In his first year, he helped them get promoted from the third tier.

He was also loaned out to Millwall for the 2022/23 season, where he appeared 22 times before returning to the north.

What next for Barnsley man?

Styles’ future at Barnsley depends on whether he wants to stay.

Birmingham City has been credited with an interest, and only time will tell whether they make an official move.
