Birmingham City Gets An Important Squad Boost

Prior to the January transfer window shutting at the end of the month, Fulham confirmed that loanee Jay Stansfield will not be returned, providing Birmingham City with an important transfer update.

The forward will stay at St. Andrew’s for the remainder of the season after Marco Silva’s team decided not to add the former Exeter City star back to their senior squad.

With nine goals in 28 games since his summer arrival, Stansfield leads The Blues in scoring this season. The 21-year-old’s play has improved recently; in their previous two games against Stoke City and Hull City, he has assisted once and scored twice.

Due to his performance since moving to Birmingham, he has attracted the attention of numerous managers, including new manager Tony Mowbray, who took over the team after Wayne Rooney was fired at the beginning of the month.

Speaking after the Championship match last Saturday, the 60-year-old stated he would be open to turning the striker’s loan into a long-term agreement down the road.

“I chat to him most days; he is really enjoying his sport and he is scoring goals,” he stated to Birmingham Live. Would he like to return and sit on the bench for ten minutes here and there? A young player should, in my opinion, want to play, want to score, and want to show off his skills.

After returning from Exeter last season, where he scored nine goals in 39 games for the League One team his father played for, Stansfield inked a new four-year contract with The Cottagers.

With 32 points, Birmingham City is presently ranked 20th in the second division. In the FA Cup’s fourth round, the Blues will travel on Saturday to Leicester City, the league’s dominant team.

The greatest player news they will likely hear this window is that Jay Stansfield will be staying at St Andrew’s for the remainder of the season. Though the 21-year-old’s goal total this season may not be in the double digits, it is acceptable given the club’s managerial troubles over the past several months. With ten total goals and assists this season, he is tied with Juninho Bacuna.

Since taking over, Tony Mowbray has been able to implement the adjustments he feels are necessary to keep the team out of the relegation zone. In addition to signing South Korean international Paik Seung-ho as a second midfield player, he has already added Andre Dozzell from Queens Park Rangers. With the former Sunderland manager in charge, Birmingham City should be safe from any serious danger for the remainder of the season.
