Birmingham City take on Peterborough United at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park on Saturday afternoon (3pm).

Birmingham City will keep a careful eye on Kwame Poku when Peterborough United visit on Saturday (3pm).

Posh DangerMan Poku has received a lot of attention over the last two years because to his impressive performances under Darren Ferguson. His numbers are growing year after year, and a move away from London Road seems likely.

During an appearance on the Keep Right On Podcast this week, Peterborough’s director of football and former Blues manager Barry Fry hinted the winger may wind up at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park.

Fry added, “I’m sure Craig (Gardner) will come in for one of the other players I have, and he might come around to my way of thinking. He ought to pay my money instead of his!”

Fry eventually succumbed when questioned if the guy in question is a 23-year-old winger. “Yeah, something like that,” he replied. “And he’s the top scorer in the league at the moment with your fellas!”

Poku has five goals in Peterborough’s first seven league games, including one in the 2-2 draw with Leyton Orient on Tuesday. Last season, the leftie scored 18 goals in League One, up from 13 in 2022/23.

Some Blues supporters may recall Poku rinsing Manny Longelo during a preseason friendly at London Road last year. While Poku has operated more centrally this season, Alex Cochrane will most likely have to face him on Saturday.

Blues fans are not the only ones that admire Poku. Championship club Luton Town made a late move to sign him during the summer transfer window.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony claimed on his Hard Truth Podcast: “There had been four other clubs before them, and then Luton came in, and to be fair, Kwame was as good as gold, causing no problems at all. We just told Gary Sweet, their CEO, that we’re not selling Kwame. It was a reasonable bid, in the millions with add-ons and so on, but Kwame is under the age of 24. We will get the same bid they made at the tribunal next year.”

Poku’s contract expires next year, and Peterborough may sell in January if the price is right. Blues will undoubtedly be keeping a careful eye on how his scenario unfolds.
