Birmingham City boss is fond of the striker, a free agent with 176 goals in his career

According to Alan Nixon, Wayne Rooney, the manager of Birmingham City, is a fan of Josef Martinez, a free agent striker.

In the upcoming weeks, Birmingham City may consider the free agency market. Nixon has connected the Blues to a move for Martinez after he was released by Inter Miami.

The Venezuelan gained recognition in the Major League Soccer (MLS) with Atlanta United, where he played in 158 games and scored an amazing 111 goals. He has also scored 176 goals at the club level for clubs such Atlanta, Torino, Young Boys, and others.

After being let go by David Beckham’s Inter Miami, Nixon claims that Luton Town is monitoring his situation. The 30-year-old is also reportedly in negotiations with Brazilian team Internacional.

However, it’s also reported that Rooney is a huge fan of Martinez, and that he may move to England based on mutual consent.

Under Rooney, Birmingham City has already played three games, all of which have been in losses. On Saturday, the Blues fell 3-1 against Southampton, and they currently lie in 14th place in the Championship league, down from 6th when Rooney took over.

Birmingham City in for Martinez.

Even before Rooney took over, Blues were shown some respectable attacking intent. Birmingham City defeated West Brom three games ago under John Eustace, and a few weeks later, they looked like a very different team.

The Blues have only managed one goal in Rooney’s three outings in command. Martinez might be a good choice on the free agent market, and it appears like Rooney could use a little more offensive firepower to justify his strategies.

Considering that he has never played in England, it would undoubtedly be risky. However, his track record speaks for itself, and the Premier League is interested. Martinez is a player that has the ability to be successful in England, according to Luton.

This weekend, Birmingham City will take on Ipswich Town.
