League One Side Birmingham City intend to enhance their midfield options by signing Barnsley playmaker Callum Styles.

The midfielder began his career with Burnley’s academy but was dismissed at the age of sixteen. This led to a move to Bury, who were in League One at the time, when he made his professional debut.

Barnsley eventually signed him in the summer of 2018 for ÂŁ250,000. After appearing over 40 times for the Tykes in consecutive seasons, loans to Championship clubs Millwall and Sunderland would be finalized.

His time in the Championship would be brief, with only 2,000 minutes total during two loans. His stay with the Black Cats coincided with the team’s notorious six-game losing streak at the end of 2024.

Along with his club career, Styles has appeared for the Hungarian national team over 15 times, including at the European Championships. He played in the team’s sole victory over Scotland in the tournament.

Styles also has a great deal of versatility, as he can play practically any role in the midfield. Throughout his career, he has played on the wings as well as defensive and offensive duties in the middle of the park.

Birmingham City were demoted to League One in the 2023/24 season, but with strong financial backing, they will aim to return to the top level. Recruitment is an important aspect of this strategy, and they have been successful thus far, with five additions.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, the club plans to build on this success by signing Callum Styles. According to the source, the Hungarian international is available for roughly ÂŁ500,000 and is currently on the Blues’ radar.

Despite interest in the English-born midfielder, Chris Davies’ team has been after Burney’s Scott Twine, but they have yet to agree on a fee for the midfield creative, who is also coveted by Bristol City and Sunderland.

Other Championship clubs are also interested in signing the Hungarian international. Birmingham, on the other hand, has more money than most other teams in the league. Furthermore, the club’s future plans, such as a 60,000-seater stadium, make it an appealing alternative for young players.

Overall, this is an excellent opportunity for the Blues to strengthen their roster. A deep and flexible squad will be critical in attempting to dominate League One and immediately return to the top flight.

Furthermore, with key players like as Jordan James expected to depart, finding replacements may prove difficult. As a result, Styles is the best option to advance the midland-based side and provide a creative spark throughout the season.

Despite this, the signing may fail because his numbers are insignificant when compared to his League One experience. As a result, they may consider pursuing other players currently on the market this summer.
