Birmingham City Are Interested For The Signature Of Venezuelan International

Journalist Alan Nixon claims that once Venezuelan international Josef Martinez leaves Inter Miami, Birmingham City is preparing a move to sign him.

After the 2023 MLS season ended, the 30-year-old became a free agent. He is currently looking for the next phase of his professional career, which may involve a move to England for the first time.

Martinez, who debuted for Venezuela in 2011, made 40 appearances in all competitions last season, helping to score three goals and scoring twelve himself.

Since February 2017, when he first joined Atlanta United on loan from Italian team Torino and completed a €4.5 million move a month later, the attacker has been playing in the Major League Soccer (MLS).

Martinez spent six years in America, making over 170 games and earning a reputation as a prolific goal scorer with 110 goals and 16 assists.

When Southampton easily defeated Birmingham City in the early kickoff on Saturday afternoon, it was the team’s third straight league loss under new manager Wayne Rooney.

The Blues’ loss has dropped them to 14th place in the Championship standings, five points outside of the play-off spots. In order to resume winning ways, they will need to add more aggressive players.

The 30-year-old is apparently being pursued by a number of teams, including Birmingham City, who may be his first European destination since leaving for Italy in 2017.

Despite having players like Scott Hogan, Jay Stansfield, and Lukas Jutkiewicz at their disposal, Birmingham City may choose to sign the 30-year-old due to his American ties.

But it’s usually not a sure thing to bring in a player who doesn’t know English football when you need results. As his poor performance persists, this might put Wayne Rooney under more unwelcome strain.
