BIRMINGHAM CITY ANNOUNCES HEAD COACH’S EXIT

Birmingham City confirmed the departure of head coach Darren Carter.

WSL Full-Time was notified of the news via an official press release from the Blues this afternoon. It has been stated that Carter would pursue other chances outside of the football club.

The 40-year-old was named Birmingham City’s head coach in November 2021. He took over following the dismissal of former leader Scott Booth. Carter was unable to keep Birmingham City from being relegated to the Barclays Women’s Championship in 2021/2022, although he did play an important role in changing unfavorable opinions of the club’s women’s team.

Last season, Birmingham City lost out on an immediate return to the Barclays Women’s Super League by one point under Carter’s supervision. The Blues finished that season with an incredible seven-game winning streak.

Birmingham City began the current season with a hangover after their tight defeat in 2022/2023, picking up just one point from their first four games. The Blues recovered and re-entered the promotion race, however finishing at the top of the league is now nearly impossible. Carter has decided to pursue a different career now that the club’s season is almost ended.

Carter leaves Birmingham City in fifth place in the Barclays Women’s Championship standings, with three games remaining.
