Before their match in Week 10, the Arizona Cardinals parted ways with two running backs

The Arizona Cardinals have chosen to let go of two running backs, including James Conner, who is recovering from surgery.

Halfway through the 2023 NFL season, Tony Jones Jr. and Damien Williams find themselves free agents. It’s unclear what either person will do next.

Damien Williams, a nine-year veteran, and the Arizona Cardinals have negotiated an injury settlement. Despite playing in just three games for the team, he totaled 55 yards on 13 touches. It’s doubtful that the 31-year-old running back will receive another opportunity in the NFL. Williams will end his career with 2,661 scrimmage yards and 25 touchdowns if he doesn’t.

Tony Jones Jr. is younger—he turns 26 on November 24—at 25 years old. He played for the Cardinals just once, totaling seven scrimmage yards from three carries and two receptions. Jones Jr. has spent time in New Orleans throughout each of his first four seasons, so it’s possible that he will return there. He wore a Saints uniform for 18 of his 23 NFL games, four of them were this year.

What’s Next for the Arizona Cardinals?

The 1-8 Arizona Cardinals are now beyond hope for the postseason after a six-game losing streak. Nevertheless, there’s a good reason for the team to be anticipating Week 10. Kyler Murray, the quarterback, is expected to make his much anticipated season debut at home.

He’ll take against the Atlanta Falcons in his season debut. This matchup has Arizona as a mere 1.5-point underdog, which is the best pregame line they’ve had all season. The Cardinals are hoping that their second victory against a poor Falcons club will come from a healthy defense and the return of Kyler Murray.
