Bears injury update: Team might play without three wide outs v. the Lions

When the Bears play the Lions at Soldier Field on Sunday, they will be shorthanded at wide receiver, and it is possible they could be shorthanded at two positions as well.

Equanimeous St. Brown was labeled as doubtful with a pectoral injury on the team’s final injury report of the week, while Tyler Scott and Velus Jones Jr. were listed as questionable due to hamstring and illness, respectively.

If Scott and Jones Jr. are both unable to play, Darnell Mooney and Trent Taylor will have to step up to cover for DJ Moore. Nsimba Webster or Colin Johnson might be promoted from the practice squad, if it is something the team decides to do. The squad would also be without its two best kick returners as a result. The Bears have used Khalil Herbert to return kicks in the past, and he might do it once more.An additional kick return option is Travis Homer.

With a knee ailment that surfaced on Thursday’s report, defensive end Yannick Ngakoue is doubtful to play on the defensive end of the ball. But Ngakoue is headed in the right path because he was able to practice in full on Friday. Ngakoue is expected to be able to participate in the game against the Lions.

D’Onta Foreman and Larry Borom both enter Week 14 without a game designation, which is good news for the offense. Despite suffering from an ankle injury for several weeks, Foreman has become one of the most productive rushers in the league. As the team’s backup swing tackle in the event that Darnell Wright or Braxton Jones are injured, Borom is crucial.

Lastly, linebacker Noah Sewell and cornerback Tyrique Stevenson are both healthy enough to play on Sunday. Stevenson’s ankle injury kept him out of the Bears’ game against the Vikings. He will now likely return to the starting lineup, though the coaches have stated that he and fellow rookie Terrell Smith will switch between the defense and offense. This season, Sewell has mostly been used on special teams, although he can also fill in as the starting strongside linebacker if necessary.
