Barry Fry issues Birmingham City reminder with a shock statement

Barry Fry has reminded Birmingham City of what occurred the last time they were demoted to League One: he guided them to the league and cup double.

The Blues won the league title and the EFL Trophy (formerly known as the Auto Windscreens Shield) at Wembley Stadium in front of 78,000 supporters. Fry, 79, is still active in football as the director of football at League One club Peterborough United, and believes the Blues can win it again.

He added, “I know all of you Bluenoses are down and out right now due to relegation. I must remind you that while I was there, we were relegated to League One, and the following year we won the league. We also won the Auto Windscreens at Wembley in front of 78,000 people, including 55,000 Bluenoses.

“You can complete the double next year. The club has never been in better hands than with its current owners. They will get you back to the promised land of the Premier League.”

Fry is still a popular figure in these parts and will return to Birmingham on Friday night for BluesFest. Fry will join Christophe Dugarry at Millennium Point to share stories about their Blues careers.

The two will then compete as managers of two sides at St Andrew’s on Saturday to benefit the Birmingham City Foundation. You may get tickets to the match here.
