Atlanta Braves Set Up for Divisional Game Against Mets at Truist Park

The Atlanta Braves are looking forward to seeing their old adversary in Truist Park, especially because the New York Mets are still struggling offensively.

The Atlanta Braves feel nearly unstoppable right now.

Atlanta’s offense overcame two poor starts from the top of their staff to sweep the defending National League champion Arizona Diamondbacks at Truist Park over the weekend.

And now in first place, the Braves can solidify their position in the standings with a divisional series against the New York Mets, who visit Truist Park for four games beginning today. As we mentioned in The Morning Meeting today, New York’s offense has failed to wake up, with numerous highly paid batters unable to produce: Francisco Lindor has the lowest batting average on the club (3-36), followed by Brandon Nimmo (.103), Jeff McNeil (.115), and Pete Alonso (.184).

Lineups for the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets on Monday, April 7th

Here’s how Atlanta will line up for the contest:

RF Ronald Acuña Jr
2B Ozzie Albies
3B Austin Riley
1B Matt Olson
DH Marcell Ozuna
CF Michael Harris II
SS Orlando Arcia
C Travis d’Arnaud
LF Jarred Kelenic

Charlie Morton is making his second start for the Braves this season, hoping for more of the same as his season debut against the Chicago White Sox last week: 5.2 innings of three-hit, shutout baseball with two walks and six strikeouts. He has a lot more history against the New York Mets (13 starts), but none of the lineup regulars have been particularly effective against Morton, with some outstanding lines such as Francisco Lindor’s.146 (41 ABs), Brandon Nimmo’s.167 (24 ABs), and Jeff McNeil’s.200 (25 ABs).

Here’s New York’s lineup today:

CF Brandon Nimmo
SS Francisco Lindor
1B Pete Alonso
C Francisco Alvarez
3B Brett Baty
RF Starling Marte
DH DJ Stewart
LF Jeff McNeil
2B Joey Wendle

The Braves welcome back old friend Julio Teheran to Truist Park for this one; Teheran was a Braves starter for eight years (2011-2019) and has faced Atlanta twice since leaving, both times last season as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers. The Braves totally dominated him in his second start, on July 29th, smacking Teheran for nine runs on eleven hits in just five innings of an 11-5 win at Truist Park.
