Arsenal keep interested on Aston Villa midfielder

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal is aiming to strengthen its midfield and is interested in signing Aston Villa player Douglas Luiz.

The Brazilian player, 25, joined Villa Park in the summer of 2019 and has since established himself as a major member of the team. The Gunners have long admired him and he has over 160 games for Villa.

The Gunners, according to Romano, “appreciate” him and “always keep monitoring” him. Pedro Neto is being closely watched by Arsenal as well.

The midfielder for Villa was the target of an offer from Arsenal in the past, but he later agreed to a new contract at Villa Park that lasts until 2026. Although the Gunners like him, it won’t be simple to persuade him to leave anytime soon.

Luiz has been excellent for Villa thus far

Under Unai Emery, the prestigious midfielder has had a fantastic start to the current season and has so far scored three goals in the Premier League. According to Whoscored, he is a conventional box-to-box center midfielder who completes about 2.3 tackles per game.

Football commentators have praised him for his good performances in previous years; Gabby Agbonlahor described him as “outstanding” last season.

Declan Rice was acquired this summer by the Gunners for a club-record price from West Ham, strengthening their midfield. The north London team appears to be still searching for quality and depth in the central midfield positions, though.

Although Luiz has long been their objective, Neto is one of the guys they greatly like.

Villa is now ranked fifth in the Premier League after having an excellent start to the year. Villa very certainly won’t let Luiz depart in January unless the Gunners make an outrageous bid.
