Antonio Pierce Shares His First Message Upon Managing Raiders

When the Las Vegas Raiders fired head coach Josh McDaniels, it was evident that the team required a culture reset.

The Raiders struggled to create an identity under McDaniels, resulting in embarrassing losses throughout the 2023 NFL season.

To replace McDaniels, Las Vegas turned to linebackers coach Antonio Pierce, who was named interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

Pierce was well appreciated in the locker room for his ability to relate to and communicate with the players, as well as for his authenticity.

Pierce disclosed in a sit-down video the first message he sent to the players after being designated interim head coach, which was communicated through the team’s official Twitter account.

“We’ve got nine games left,” Pierce added. “We can write our own script.”

In the video, Pierce says he gave each player a blank sheet of paper and told them to write down what they wanted to happen the rest of the way.

The strategy paid well, as the Raiders rallied and finished the season 5-4.

Pierce’s efforts resulted in him being chosen the franchise’s next head coach, and he now has a whole offseason to rebuild the squad in his image.

The early returns have been encouraging for Las Vegas, as the roster and fanbase appear to fully support Pierce.

The 2024 NFL season will be critical in assessing Pierce’s viability as Raiders head coach, but he has said and done everything correctly thus far.
