ANOTHER STING IN RELEGATION FIGHT: BLUES LOSE AGAIN

Another defeat, another setback in Birmingham City’s quest to remain in the Championship.

It was up to QPR and Huddersfield to lift themselves out of the bottom three with victories, but they could only manage a point in their respective games. Stoke obliged with a defeat at the hands of Norwich, so all is not lost.

But victories are an unknown creature for this side right now, and by the 44th minute, you’d think our luck had run out. Cody Drameh made a potentially lax throw in, and Emanuel Aiwu was the unlucky beneficiary. Emmanuel Dennis scored unexpectedly when the youngster’s pockets were picked.

Blues had a lot to do before the game started, but situations like this shouldn’t happen, especially if you want to survive.

The majority of the players put in good performances against Watford, who had to deal with a lot of pressure, particularly in the second half. However, the hosts failed to put Daniel Bachmann to the test sufficiently to earn at least a share of the spoils.

Watford are in the middle of the standings and haven’t performed well this season. It only demonstrates that the league is extremely competitive this year, and that the majority of the teams in the bottom half are unsure of their Championship position.

If the Blues fail, it will be due to both Rooney’s stay and a lack of quality, particularly depth. This is a good squad with some talent, but when it comes down to it, mental toughness is everything.

The trigger on Rooney was pulled far too late, but outcomes under Mowbray have not improved significantly. However, with him missing a few games, it raises the question of whether Mark Venus is sending a strong message to his players.

The team was motivated in the second half, and it seemed like the hosts had something to prove. Juninho Bacuna is one of the players who has taken up the mantle, throwing in inviting crosses and always probing for spaces inside the box. However, the Blues lacked precision and composure in front of the goal. They took more than twenty shots, but Bachmann was basically untested apart from one big save.

There are two weeks to reflect on this result, and the Blues are narrowly outside the bottom three. Next up is a huge game at QPR on excellent Friday, and the winner will undoubtedly be in excellent spirits. QPR are ahead of Blues, but the R’s have had some respectable results. Beating Leicester in a scalp and two excellent home draws against Sunderland and West Brom.

We all remember Che Adams’ goals at Loftus Road, but we will now need another magician. We are crying out for one.
