‘Another massive blow’ – Birmingham City against Preston North End prediction

Birmingham City versus Preston North End prediction for the Championship match on Monday afternoon.

Birmingham City come into this Easter Monday meeting after suffering a crushing defeat to QPR. The Blues gave up a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1, with Jimmy Dunne scoring the winner in the 92nd minute.

This means Gary Rowett and his team stay 21st in the Championship table. They are only out of the relegation zone by goal difference.

Preston North End, meanwhile, easily defeated Rotherham United. The Lilywhites scored all three goals in their 3-0 first-half victory at Deepdale.

Ryan Lowe’s side is still in contention for a play-off spot. They’re eighth in the Championship, five points behind the top six.

Here are some of our writers’ predictions for the game.

James Ray

“That late defeat to QPR will have seriously knocked the stuffing out of Birmingham City. It leaves them left in a precarious position as the games come thick and fast at the business end of the season.

“There’s not much time for them to forget about it and reset either. Rowett will be hopeful of a successful return to St. Andrew’s, but Preston are in decent form and will be confident of another win.

“The visitors have won three on the bounce away from home while the hosts have lost three in a row at St. Andrew’s. That could pave the way for Preston to emerge victorious, dealing another huge blow to the Blues.”

Birmingham City vs Preston North End prediction: 0-1

Jacob Hackett

“Gary Rowett did not get off to the best start in his second spell with Birmingham, and the devastatingly late nature of their defeat is bound to have dealt a massive blow mentally against fellow relegation rivals.

“They face a Preston side who are still fighting for a top six finish, and the Lilywhites will surely bring their A game to St. Andrew’s with what is at stake.

“The Blues are in desperate need of a result having lost their last four, but they will have to improve massively if they are to stop Preston on Monday.

“I can see the away side adding to Birmingham’s misery on this occasion, I’m predicting a narrow win for Lowe’s men.”

Birmingham City vs Preston North End prediction: 1-2
