An injured Viking wants to return…

We’re another week into the Vikings 2024 offseason, and speculations about the club are in full swing.

As we continue to progress through the rest of the NFL playoffs and into the genuine offseason process, here’s a look at all of the purple headlines from the previous week.

The latest mock draft name for the Vikings

Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network is widely considered as one of the NFL’s greatest draft analysts. This week, he presented his first 2024 NFL mock draft of the year, which featured a new face for the Vikings.

DT Byron Murphy played collegiate football at the University of Texas. During the 2023 season at Texas, the defensive tackle recorded 29 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and five sacks.

The Vikings could probably afford to strengthen up their defensive line this offseason, especially since Jonathan Bullard, Danielle Hunter, and D.J. Wonnum are all free agents, so Murphy would be an intriguing target if Minnesota does not sign a quarterback.

RB Cam Akers Reflects on His Free Agency

With the Vikings unable to run the ball in the first half of the regular season, they decided to trade for running back Cameron Akers.

Unfortunately, the experiment would be short-lived. Akers suffered a torn Achilles tendon during Minnesota’s Week 9 game against the Atlanta Falcons and will miss the rest of the season.

Akers is now ready to hit free agency, although he appears to be interested in returning to Minnesota. Vikes Verified posted the question, “Will the Vikings reach an agreement with RB Cam Akers this offseason?” Akers demonstrated explosiveness in a limited role this season and is still only 24 years old. Cam appears to be recovering quickly from a damaged Achilles, which is not surprising given that he returned in just 6 months for the Rams’ playoff run in 2021-2022. also not only returned, but also played an important role on the championship squad. Would you bring Akers back in 2024?

The running back discovered the message and responded, “I believe so.”

Finally, getting Akers back could be beneficial for Minnesota as they look to revitalize their rushing assault. The running back will not turn 25 years old until June, and as long as he is healthy enough to play, he has an intriguing skillset as both a runner and a pass receiver.

Is Kirk Cousins going to join Bill Belichick?

Kirk Cousins’ impending free agency has been a topic of much debate over the last year. Should the Vikings bring him back, or let him go? Would Cousins be interested in returning to Minnesota rather than signing a higher contract elsewhere?

The quarterback recently discussed the prospect of joining Bill Belichick (probably with the Atlanta Falcons), and he said the following:

“I’m not going to pass up the opportunity to play with a future Hall of Fame coach. But we’ll have to see where March takes us; there are simply so many unknowns right now.”

It could be something to keep an eye on as March approaches.

In case you missed it.

As usual, we’ve compiled an additional list of reading material for the most ardent Vikings fans. Happy reading!
