Amon-Ra St. Brown could be used on punt returns for the Lions on Sunday

The Lions may employ their No. 1 wide receiver on special teams on Sunday, which is unusual in the NFL.

Khalif Raymond, who returned every punt for the Lions during the regular season, was injured in the season finale and will most likely miss the game against the Rams. St. Brown, according to Lions special teams coordinator Dave Fipp, might be called in Raymond’s stead.

“I believe we can manage the roles as well, so could someone like St. Brown do that?” It’s conceivable. “He’s been an emergency returner for us all season,” Fipp said, according to MLive.com. “Obviously, Donovan [Peoples-Jones] did it in Cleveland, so that’s an option.” Then you’ve got Mo Alexander on the practice squad, assuming we can bring him up. He’d be an excellent choice. He’s a fantastic player. So, in any case, it will be one of those.”

St. Brown has never returned a punt or kickoff in the NFL, but he did it at USC. In four seasons with the Browns, Peoples-Jones returned 61 punts for 479 yards and a score. Alexander has yet to play this season, although he did return kickoffs for the Lions last year and was an All-Conference-USA punt returner at Florida International as well as a punt returner for the USFL’s Philadelphia Stars.

Fipp stated that Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams, the SEC special teams player of the year as a return man, is not expected to handle returns on Sunday.
