“Almost do nothing wrong”: Burnley manager Vincent Kompany envisions a promising future for the most recent debutant

Wilson Odobert, who recently made his Burnley debut, seems to have a bright future, according to Vincent Kompany.

The 18-year-old just played for the Clarets for the first time, scoring in the team’s easy 4-0 victory over Salford City in the Carabao Cup.

The next week, the winger started and scored against Chelsea after making an appearance as a substitute against Newcastle United in the league.

Odobert has shown a lot of promise even at such a young age, but Kompany is adamant that there is still much more to come.

Being a young player—he’s only 18—he has a slight edge since he can practically do no wrong, Kompany added.

“You can sometimes get away with having wingers a little bit younger because their speed and threat in a one-on-one situation always give you something to consider.”

“We’ve already defeated Wilson and [Luca] Koleosho, and the guys will only get better.”

Kompany responded, “It depends; at his age, it’s easy for me to say he’s a good player,” in response to the question of how good Odobert could get.

“I keep in mind that we played a League Two team [in the Carabao Cup], but it wasn’t like it was his first time playing football in Ligue 1 [for Troyes].” He has experience playing men’s football.

“You watch these guys and if they have good habits, you can tell they have talent, just like many of the talented players I’ve had the opportunity to play with throughout my career.”

“A significant portion of it plays in your head; at that age, you can’t see it. It need some time.
