Alex Pritchard’s injury report comes after his Birmingham City appearance ended dramatically

Alex Pritchard, Birmingham City’s Deadline Day signing from Sunderland, was substituted at halftime in their 1-0 loss to West Brom.

Birmingham City manager Tony Mowbray stated Alex Pritchard’s half-time substitute during the 1-0 defeat against West Bromwich Albion was due to injury concerns.

Blues’ bargain Deadline Day addition did not return for the second period due to a calf injury, Mowbray stated during the post-match press conference. Jordan James, who was arguably unfortunate not to start the game, replaced Pritchard.

“His calf was stiffening up somewhat. The tension; a new club – your body tenses up as you want to do well,” Mowbray explained. “I believe things was a little tight, and we made a decision collectively at halftime to not put him in danger. “I thought the overall depth of the squad felt stronger today,” Mowbray said.

Pritchard will be upset that he did not play the whole 90 minutes on his Birmingham debut, but there were encouraging indications as the playmaker operated effectively between the lines. The former Sunderland and Huddersfield Town player struggled to complete passes into the final third, although he dribbled proficiently.

The 30-year-old is believed to be a valuable asset for Mowbray, who persuaded the player to join Birmingham over clubs in Turkey and the United States of America. Pritchard will most likely get a scan before making the choice to travel to Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night.
