Alex Orji has proven as top quarterback choice in Michigan football

We’ll know more about the Michigan football quarterback duel after the spring game, but Alex Orji appears to be gaining traction right now.

It’s not simply that he’s appeared in a few social media videos, which were amazing. Orji gave Colston Loveland a cent in one video.

The most recent video to circulate shows Orji scoring a touchdown in Michigan football practice before beating up a dummy, similar to how the Wolverines beat Ohio State the previous two seasons.

Is Alex Orji QB1 for Michigan football?

The impression that Orji is emerging as the starting quarterback, at least during Michigan football spring practices, is based on what players and coaches are saying. No other quarterback is as frequently cited as Orji. Even this week, Mason Graham and Josaiah Stewart have praised him.

Graham praised Orji’s running abilities, stating that it adds a unique element to the offense. You have no idea what he’s doing, even when he doesn’t have the ball, because he is a weapon. “When there’s someone back there who can run at any time and you have to chase him down, it’s in the back of your mind throughout the game.”

Stewart disputed the claim that Orji couldn’t throw.

“He can escape the pocket, but believe it or not, he can throw,” he remarked. “People may not believe social media or other sources that he cannot throw, but he can. I’ve seen him toss dots down the field, and it’s worse when you’re almost there and he gets the ball off for a touchdown. He’s fantastic at it. He’s excellent at evading and moving the ball downfield.”

Jadyn Davis is having a solid spring

Jadyn Davis has also received some nice feedback. That bodes well for the future, and many believe he will be the guy in 2025 and beyond. Furthermore, he recently signed his first NIL contract as a Michigan football player. Davis will most likely not be ready to start this fall, but I always expected him to be ready to play early in his career.

Jack Tuttle is another name I keep coming back to. He completed a high percentage of passes last season, particularly in garbage time, and I believe he has the potential to be this team’s Cade McNamara in 2021. Not on the same level, but with Orji and a fantastic defense, it just might work.

For the time being, however, Orji appears to be the best in-house alternative for the starting quarterback position next season.
