On Thursday, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe was named one of five nominees for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award.

The Earl Campbell Award is given to the best offensive player in the country who also demonstrates the enduring characteristics that defined Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity; specifically, the tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of goals. The player must also be a Texas native, have played high school football in Texas, or have attended a Texas-based community college or four-year college.

Milroe attended Tompkins High School in Katy, Texas, where he played high school football. Texas running back Jonathon Brooks, Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon, Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, and Liberty quarterback Kaidon Salter are the other finalists.

Milroe finished sixth in Heisman voting and is also a Manning Award nominee. Alabama’s quarterback has thrown for 2,718 yards and 23 touchdowns and rushed for 468 yards and 12 more.

In 2016, Jalen Hurts was a finalist for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, although no Alabama player has won the award since its inception in 2013.

The winner will be announced on January 10 during the award banquet in Tyler, Texas.
