Alabama’s 4-star freshmen TE responds to 5-star quarterback joining NCAA transfer portal

Alabama has officially seen its second member of the 2024 recruiting class enter the NCAA transfer portal.

Jameer Grimsley, a four-star athlete, accessed the gateway on Thursday. Now, five-star quarterback Julian Sayin has opted to leave the Crimson Tide program. The California native made the decision, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Sayin intended to play for head coach Nick Saban, but his retirement has pushed the brilliant quarterback to consider alternative choices.

Caleb Odom, a four-star tight end in the 2024 class, is disappointed with Sayin’s choice to leave. The native Georgian joined Sayin in Rose Bowl workouts for Alabama’s game versus Michigan. After graduating from Carrollton (Ga.) High School, Odom was looking forward to a pleasant career with Sayin. He responded to Sayin’s choice via social media.

Alabama’s quarterbacks include Jalen Milroe, Ty Simpson, Dylan Lonergan, and recently Austin Mack (who transferred from Washington). Sayin becomes the second signal-caller to enter the portal to leave Alabama, following Eli Holstein (now in Pittsburgh).
