Alabama quarterback emphasizes transferable strengths. Germie Bernard adds to the WR room.

Germie Bernard had some success at Michigan State and Washington, but he is now set to explode at Alabama.

Bernard was one of college football’s top offenses last year, helping the Huskies win the Pac-12 Championship and advance to the College Football Playoff National Championship.

He caught 34 catches for 419 yards and two touchdowns for Washington; but, Bernard could play a larger role for the Crimson Tide.

Isaiah Bond’s move to the University of Texas provides Bernard with an opportunity to be a playmaker. The 6-foot-1, 203-pounder from Las Vegas (Nev.) has had an impressive spring, making multiple plays in two scrimmages.

Alabama has had success with transfer wide receivers, but quarterback Jalen Milroe explained to reporters why Bernard is a good match for the Tide. He’s been a valuable addition to a talented receiving room.

“I like Germie a lot,” Milroe said Tuesday after practice. “Great size, great speed, tough, confident, and when you have a player that plays with confidence, it is hard to stop them. I’m proud of him because of the leader he is. When he came here, it was a hard transition coming from Washington. Now that he’s here in the south, he’s in a different environment. He is not from the south, but to see where he is now, he has been effective. I am super proud of who he is as a person and he’s a great player for our team.”

Bernard came close to winning the national championship at Washington, but he believes Alabama has a better chance of doing so.

Crimson Tide fans will get their first peek at him Saturday at the A-Day Game.
