Alabama officially names Courtney Morgan as general manager

Alabama football announced another hire on Friday.

Courtney Morgan was named the Crimson Tide’s general manager, a move that has been known since he accompanied new head coach Kalen DeBoer off the plane at Tuscaloosa National Airport on the day UA hired Nick Saban’s replacement.

Morgan had worked in the same capacity under DeBoer in Washington.

“I love working for Coach DeBoer and I am looking forward to continuing the standard that Alabama football has set,” Morgan said in a UA athletics release announcing his hire.

“Everyone on this staff is working toward the same goal, and we believe in Coach DeBoer’s strategy for winning. Trust and hard effort are critical components of success, and I’m always prepared to get to work, and I absolutely trust Coach DeBoer’s approach to developing a program.”

According to the statement, Morgan will be in charge of roster management as well as the recruiting and personnel departments’ day-to-day operations. He’ll assist DeBoer with film evaluations and prospect communications, transfer portal evaluations, and internal brand management.

Morgan, who played football at Michigan, worked for the Wolverines in 2021 before joining DeBoer’s Washington staff. He started working for DeBoer at Fresno State.

“Courtney is such an important part of our program,” DeBoer stated in the announcement. “He has excellent ties across the country and is critical to assisting us in recruiting and evaluating talent at the high school level as well as through the transfer site.

Courtney is a critical part of what we are trying to do at Alabama, and I am thrilled to be able to bring him to Tuscaloosa.”
