Alabama linebacker declares move to AAC school after three seasons

Ian Jackson confirmed his move to UTSA on Thursday night.

The former Alabama linebacker entered the gateway on January 4.He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Jackson, of Prattville, appeared in three games throughout his career, including a tackle against Mississippi State in 2022. He was a four-star inside linebacker prospect out of high school and a top-300 recruit, according to ESPN. UTSA finished 9-4 in the American Athletic Conference last season.

Twenty-three players have entered the transfer portal in one of the most chaotic turnovers in college football history. UA lost to Michigan in the Rose Bowl; head coach Nick Saban retired nine days later; incoming coach Kalen DeBoer is working to establish a staff while keeping important players on the roster.

Deontae Lawson and Jihaad Campbell will return to the Tide’s interior linebacker position, which Jackson held. On January 18, linebackers coach Robert Bala indicated that he will not be retained on DeBoer’s staff.
