Alabama football suffers a double whammy after losing a wide receiver to the transfer portal

Alabama football suffers a double whammy, losing a wide receiver to the transfer portal following a CFP loss.

Alabama football hasn’t yet recovered from Monday’s crushing 27-20 loss to the Michigan Wolverines in the Rose Bowl, but they are already dealing with another loss, with wide receiver Shazz Preston allegedly entering the transfer portal, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3.

“Alabama wide receiver Shazz Preston expects to enter the transfer portal, according to On3. “The 6’1 200 WR will have three years of eligibility left.”

Preston appeared in 10 games for Alabama football and was largely employed as a special teams weapon. His departure is unlikely to have a significant impact on Alabama, but it’s nonetheless encouraging to hear for Crimson Tide fans that a player is departing the program so soon after a heartbreaking defeat in a College Football Playoff semifinals game in Pasadena.

Alabama football wide receiver looking for a fresh start somewhere else

Preston was recruited by multiple teams before joining Alabama football, including the Texas Longhorns, USC Trojans, Auburn Tigers, Colorado Buffaloes, Florida State Seminoles, Kansas Jayhawks, Ole Miss Rebels, Mississippi State Bulldogs, and Washington State Cougars.

The good news for Alabama is that it always makes up for lost talent with a high-quality recruiting class. The Crimson Tide currently has 25 commits for the 2024 season, including three five-stars, 17 four-stars, and five three-stars. Rico Scott and Aeryn Hampton, both four-star wideouts, are among them.

Alabama finished the 2023 college football season with an overall record of 12-2 and an 8-0 record against SEC opponents.
