Alabama is experiencing reality shock after a mass transfer departure, while competitors relish in their suffering.

Under head coach Nick Saban, Alabama’s football program has had exceptional success in the past two decades.

In all but one of his 17 seasons on the sidelines, the Crimson Tide won at least ten games, but a new era is on the horizon.

Saban announced his retirement in the offseason after leading the team to another College Football Playoff appearance. He leaves with six (out of seven) national championship rings, making him arguably the best coach in the sport’s history.

Alabama supporters mourned the loss of their idol, while competitors celebrated his departure.

The institution has attempted to move on, selecting Washington’s Kalen DeBoer as his replacement. Unfortunately, the timing of his retirement could not have been worse.

The transfer portal and the National Invitational League dominate the new college football landscape, and Alabama is now on the other side.

After reaping the rewards in the past, landing prominent talents such as Jahmyr Gibbs and Jameson Williams in previous years, they are now seeing a mass exodus.

Freshman All-American Caleb Downs confirmed his desire to enter the gateway on Wednesday.

With Saban at the helm, the Tide rarely lost key players. That frequently occurs when you compete for championships on an annual basis.

Uncertainty surrounds the program, forcing many followers to complain about unfairness in this “new era.”

Others who have been coping with these challenges since the portal’s inception do not share their sympathies.

“Welcome to real life, everyone else. “The fantasy is over.”

“Bama fans finally joining the party!”

“Alabama fans argue that college football is unfair. “What a time to be alive!”

“That’s what the rest of us have been dealing with for years.”

“Now Bama fans care.”

Nobody is claiming that the program will fail. In fact, given Kalen DeBoer’s track record, it’s reasonable to assume they’ll continue to compete for CFP slots on an annual basis.

However, the impediments are becoming more significant, at least in the near term, and the Crimson Tide are beginning to see what the rest of college football has been dealing with over the last few seasons.

After Saban’s amazing success, no one will feel bad for the fan base.
