Ahead of the Cowboys game, the Eagles sign a QB-turned-receiver and release a 6-foot-5 wideout
|The Philadelphia Eagles have had a busy week of news leading up to their rivalry game against the Dallas Cowboys.
The Eagles announced a number of roster changes, including the release of newly signed wide out Cam Sims and the addition of wide receiver Greg Ward. Christian Elliss, who started against the 49ers in Week 13, was also released by the Eagles.
Given Ward’s history with the Eagles, the wide receiver moves are especially noteworthy. Ward has had a long history with the Eagles, having joined the organization as an undrafted free agent in 2017.
The dynamic playmaker has appeared in three of these seasons, including a season in which he made ten starts for the Eagles in 2020. Ward last played an NFL snap in 2021, when he appeared in all 17 games for Philadelphia. In 2022, the veteran was on and off the team’s practice squad.
Ward most recently signed with the practice squad in August but was released on November 30. Ward had his greatest season in 2020, when he appeared in 16 games (including 10 starts) and had 53 catches for 419 yards and six touchdowns.
Sims, at 6-foot-5 and 214 pounds, had the physical attributes to be an intriguing player for Philadelphia. Sims spent the previous five seasons with the Commanders before joining the Raiders and Giants practice squads in 2023.
Philadelphia signed Sims on November 30, only to let him go less than a week later. Sims signed with the Panthers ahead of Week 14.
