After the Colts’ loss to the Saints, coach Shane Steichen explains why Jonathan Taylor wasn’t used

Jonathan Taylor, the Indianapolis Colts’ running back, only saw one carry for one yard in the second half of the team’s 38-27 loss against the New Orleans Saints.

Some fans didn’t understand why the running back didn’t receive more carries after he had 11 carries for 94 yards with an average of 8.5 yards per rush in the first half.

Coach Shane Steichen talked about Taylor’s lack of carries after the game.

“Maybe there had been a chance to run there?” stated Steichen. “Yes, without a doubt. Thus, we will keep self-evaluating everything at all times. According to Steichen, the Indy Star, “the game, the flow of the game will kind of dictate how it’s called there at times.” By two points in the fourth quarter, you are behind. I could have easily scored a run there. Yes, but I also chose to include it at the very end.

Steichen stated, “We have material that J.T. and Moss are tagged on, too. “We attempt to take advantage of the strong hand. J.T. is a tremendous playmaker who gets better every week, as you were able to see in the first half. We’ll keep an eye on those things moving ahead to make sure the guy we want is in at the appropriate moment.

Although the Colts’ attempt to overcome a deficit and their use of Zack Moss contributed to Jonathan Taylor’s lack of carries, the Colts were only trailing by one point at the beginning of the second half. Taylor had such a strong first half that they might have easily planned to give him more carries.

This Sunday, the Colts play the Carolina Panthers.
