After making crucial errors in Week 13, the Cleveland Browns return the Ex-Super Bowl MVP to the practice squad

The Browns want to resolve their quarterback dilemma before it ends up costing them a postseason berth.

Following yet another defeat to the Los Angeles Rams, it appears as though the Cleveland Browns are making every effort to blow a postseason berth. The Browns have put together the best roster they have had since the original Browns moved to Baltimore in 1996, but they are unable to come up with a winning combination. The Browns have officially started four different quarterbacks so far this season, and the fourth quarterback was taken off the active roster by force as of right now.

The Perpetual Quarterback Nightmare of the Cleveland Browns

Joe Flacco, the recently acquired quarterback, will now play practice squad football, continuing the offensive woes of the Cleveland Browns. This decision was made by head coach Kevin Stefanski. The choice was made on Monday night when Stefanski declared that the quarterback position would be open for the Week 14 game against the top-ranked Jacksonville Jaguars defense.

The decision comes as a bit of a surprise considering that Flacco outperformed both career journeyman P.J. Walker and rookie quarterback Dominican Thompson-Robinson in his Browns debut. Because Deshaun Watson was the starting quarterback when the Cleveland offense was designed, both of these quarterbacks fit in well. The obvious benefit for any of these two quarterbacks over Flacco, the 38-year-old pocket passer, is their significantly greater mobility.

 Joe Flacco’s Performance

The fact that Flacco fared reasonably well against the Los Angeles Rams gives him an advantage over Stefanski’s current options. In the 36-19 defeat, Flacco completed the game 23 of 44 for 254 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Apart from the numbers, the Browns have been in dire need of a quarterback who can spread the field ever since Watson was sidelined by a should injury in the team’s Week 6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

After a string of injuries left the team lacking in experience at the quarterback position, Flacco was recently brought in to add experience to the young quarterback group. After a string of injuries in the quarterback room, Flacco was finally selected to start in Week 13 against the Los Angeles Rams.
Falco’s poor throw, which the Rams intercepted to help seal the defeat, was the final nail in his coffin. The contention is that, despite his crucial error during the aerial assault, Flacco still has the ability to extend the field against opposing safeties. Because neither of the two inexperienced players has had much success in the air, opposing defenses are able to pack the line of scrimmage against the Browns and their superior offensive line that blocks runs.

Flacco addresses his Performance

After the loss, Flacco was reportedly critical of himself, but he still believes the Browns have enough talent to contend for the postseason.

You guys must have watched these guys all year, in my opinion. They have a lot of talent and are a resilient group. You can tell right away that this is one of the most talented teams I’ve worked on in a long time.

It’s difficult to go on these lengthy road trips and return empty-handed, so for the time being we won’t be able to think back too much. Hopefully, though, when we return later this week, we’ll be able to go back and establish better habits and eventually move past this.

Flacco, who entered the game as a reserve, performed admirably, and perhaps he will get another chance as the Browns’ quarterback options become fewer and fewer.
