After losing to South Africa in the quarterfinals, France’s fans are furious with the referees’ decisions

Although South African fans (and coaches) may have the best reputation for criticizing refereeing decisions, France and its supporters have now taken up the mantle in the wake of yesterday night’s heartbreaking Rugby World Cup defeat.

Eben Etzebeth’s knockdown, Cheslin Kolbe’s conversion block, and Kwagga Smith’s late penalty were a few of the key criticisms of referee Ben O’Keefe.

One French supporter, @KelianCa07, was especially upset and took to Twitter to create a thread akin to Rassie Erasmus in response to all the choices she felt were unfairly made against their team.

Many France supporters agreed, and the following are some of their translated remarks:

“Great work to which we can add the multiple and countless fouls in the ruck zones where the tackler does not come out.”

“Thanks for the compilation, You really have to be in bad faith to say that the arbitration was correct”

“17th minute we are entitled to a head-first clearing in Danty’s face, copied/pasted from the red card from the Marseille match last year but no penalty (incidentally the Replay deliberately cuts the moment of direct impact head in slow motion)”

The majority of rugby players appear to feel that O’Keefe performed admirably in a highly stressful situation.

A similar thread might be created for the complaints of the South Africans, who also suffered from several dubious ruck rulings going against them, as with most games these days.

While the use of still images fails to paint a clear picture of some of the circumstances, the thread above also exhibits some obvious bias.
