According to sources, Yankees may trade their star slugger this season

The New York Yankees have a lot of choices to make.

Because of its huge changes this offseason, New York has garnered a lot of attention. Earlier this summer, the Yankees acquired outfielders Juan Soto, Trent Grisham, and Alex Verdugo in two separate trades. The Yankees have been the subject of several speculations recently as they seek to upgrade their starting rotation. There will most certainly be another addition or two in the coming weeks.

All of the attention on the Yankees this offseason has been on potential signings, but there could still be some significant subtractions. Gleyber Torres was said to be on his way out, yet he remains on the roster.

He appears to be staying with the club at least through the season, but that doesn’t guarantee he’ll be in New York for the near future. According to The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner and Brendan Kuty, New York may end up moving Torres before the trade deadline.

“However, the Yankees have discussed trading Torres at each of the previous two trade deadlines,” Kirschner and Kuty wrote. “When The Athletic last checked in this offseason, the Yankees had not brought any extension talks to Torres’ representatives.” The Yankees may possibly contemplate dealing him before he becomes a free agency at the end of the season.”

Torres has been a standout for the Yankees, but he will be eligible for free agency at the end of the 2024 season. New York has a lot of money to spend, but it will almost definitely prioritize keeping outfielder Juan Soto, who is also a free agent. If there isn’t enough money to go around to keep Torres, this could be his final season with the club, even if he isn’t traded this winter.
