According to Nick Saban, Alabama’s three-star defensive back possesses the same attributes as…

Alabama fans saw Dre Kirkpatrick execute as a defender with the confidence, maturity, and swagger that allowed him to become a two-time BCS National Champion (2009, 2011) and a first-round NFL Draft pick in 2012.

He enrolled at the University of Alabama as a freshman in 2009, and his kid is now 14 years his junior.

Dre Kirkpatrick Jr., a three-star defensive back, attended Gadsden City High School. He is one of nine in-state talents drafted by Nick Saban in this class. Kirkpatrick had a good high school career as a safety and put on a show at the Alabama-Mississippi Allstar Game. He may not be as tall as his father, but the young Kirkpatrick is no slouch on the field.

Kirkpatrick was a top-50 player in Alabama, and he helped Gadsden City dominate on defense and special teams.

Kirkpatrick, according to Coach Saban, possesses the same characteristics as his father.

“Little Dre is a mature guy,” Saban stated following National Signing Day on Wednesday. “He knows what he wants and is a fierce competitor.” His father shared many of those traits, which is why he became the player he was.”

Saban also coached Mark Ingram’s father at Michigan State and Ingram at Alabama, so this is not his first father/son legacy.

Kirkpatrick and Kirkpatrick Jr. are his first father-son legacy at Alabama.

“I think it’s great,” Saban said of the chance to coach Kirkpatrick Jr.

“His father has been an excellent ambassador for the program.” He was a fantastic player here and had a successful NFL career. You know how proud dad is of his son, what he’s accomplished, and having him play for Alabama.”

Tide fans are excited to see how young Kirkpatrick develops and grows into a star.
