According to an insider, the Yankees could pursue Astros superstar next offseason

The New York Yankees are loaded with talent right now, but they might make even bigger moves next offseason.

New York made possibly the most significant transaction of the winter by obtaining former San Diego Padres superstar Juan Soto.

Yankees Could Pursue Astros Superstar Next Offseason According To Insider - Sports Illustrated NY Yankees News, Analysis and More

The Yankees’ first aim this season will be to find a way to keep him in free agency when the season finishes. The Yankees might make many huge changes, including possibly re-signing Soto.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post has named Houston Astros sensation Alex Bregman as a possible candidate.

But, unlike the Winfield-to-Yamamoto timeframe, I believe the Mets and Yankees will rehash financial feuds more regularly now that Steve Cohen is engaged. There has already been conjecture that the New York teams may compete for Juan Soto next offseason.

“And one that I believe will be particularly interesting is Alex Bregman…DJ LeMahieu excels as a third-line defender. But he’s 35. He has battled injuries and offensive decline.

The Yankees believe they will rebound in 2024. What if they don’t? They don’t truly believe in Oswald Peraza as a starter, and no one in the minors is even prepared to compete for the role. There’s also this:

LeMahieu can have a terrific year and, with Gleyber Torres set to hit free agency, move back to second and put the Yankees in third place in the market.”

This does not guarantee a deal, but it is worth noting that Bregman has already been discussed as a potential option for the Yankees. For the time being, this is only a hypothetical situation, but if speculation continues throughout the season, we may see a change next summer.
