The reigning champion Chiefs are likely to maintain their positions in the NFL’s top ten.

The Kansas City Chiefs are back-to-back winners who have not been shy about promoting their quest for the first three-peat in NFL history. talented teams are built up of talented players, so it stands to reason that the league’s top club during the last two seasons would include some of the best players on its roster.

Perhaps it is unsurprising that no Chiefs have been on the NFL’s Top 100 List for 2024.

Chiefs Notably Absent From NFL’s Top 100 List

Chiefs Players Likely Still in NFL’s Top 10

“The NFL Top 100 is now down to the final 20 players. “No #Chiefs have been announced yet,” KSHB41’s Nick Jacobs wrote on X on July 30. “Last year, three #Chiefs were in the top ten.” The top ten will be revealed Friday night.

Jacobs cited Patrick Mahomes’ (No. 1), Travis Kelce’s (No. 5) and Chris Jones’ (No. 10) rankings from 2023.

It stands to assume that those three guys will appear in comparable roles in the 2024 edition.

Mahomes is coming off his sixth consecutive Pro Bowl campaign. This is despite the fact that his pass catchers (other than Kelce) and offensive line were heavily scrutinized entering the season. However, he threw the second fewest touchdown passes in his career.

Kelce said after a recent session that the 2023 campaign was challenging for him. He recorded his fewest receiving yards since the 2015 season.

He also had his fewest touchdowns since 2019 and the lowest yards per reception of his career. Kelce is coming off his ninth consecutive Pro Bowl selection and recently discussed the value of training camp in his 12th season. That demonstrates his degree of commitment following some speculation regarding his future during the 2023 season and summer.

Jones missed Week 1 of the season due to a contract holdout. Nonetheless, his 10.0 sacks earned him back-to-back seasons with double-digit sacks, bringing his career total to three.

Jones has appeared in the last five Pro Bowls and two consecutive All-Pro Teams.

Notably, none of the Chiefs’ interior linemen made the cut, including center Creed Humphrey and left guard Joe Thuney. Humphrey, in particular, might make a good case for next year’s list if he continues on his current course.

Chiefs Have Bigger Goals Than Top 100 List

While the Chiefs players undoubtedly desire their due respect, they would also likely respond that they are more concerned with achieving their three-peat goal.

They’ve dealt with plenty of off-field issues this offseason, including Mahomes being taunted by the Las Vegas Raiders, which he says will be addressed. The two clubs won’t play until Week 8.

That gives the Chiefs something to work towards at the start of the season.

Rolling into that away game with great play should be a priority for the team, especially after losing the second match in 2023 by a close 20-17 margin.

With a rather intimidating slate of games preceding that contest, it will be difficult going. The Chiefs will play the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, and San Francisco 49ers before traveling to meet the Raiders.
