Aaron Boone’s NSFW discussion with umpire is excellently broken down by a lip reader

Aaron Boone received his first ejection in 2024 on Wednesday night.

The New York Yankees manager was enraged by some of home plate umpire John Bacon’s decisions in two consecutive Alex Verdugo at-bats. Bacon ejected Boone in the seventh inning of the Yankees’ 5-2 loss to the Miami Marlins. The subsequent dispute has now received lip-reading treatment.

Bacon made a few off-the-plate calls to Marlins lefty Ryan Weathers during Verdugo’s fourth inning at-bat. He called the Yankees’ left fielder out on a ball that was several inches away. Boone expressed his displeasure to Bacon, but evidently did not go far enough to be expelled.

When Verdugo returned in the seventh, Bacon pronounced Andrew Nardi’s 1-1 slider a strike. The ball was clearly low and outside, and Boone was furious. He jumped to the top of the dugout and detonated. Bacon yanked off his mask and promptly tossed Boone, resulting in a heated argument on the field.

Jomboy did his thing in the video below. (Warning: This tweet and video contain some inappropriate language.)

Boone has a point; the calls were bad. We now know what he said during the argument that followed his ejection.
